Throughout the completion of this assignment, I analyzed the nursing concept of coping and how patients with suicidal behavior lack appropriate coping skills. This is a population of interest of mine because I often encounter children in the Emergency room with suicidal thoughts or recent attempts. Throughout this assignment, I developed clinical knowledge on the risk factors, vulnerable populations, and the significance of the behavior, as well as prevention and treatment of the behaviors. After research and reflection, I learned that as a nurse I am responsible for identifying the risk factors of vulnerable populations and then further assessing for suicidal behaviors. Thus, implementing appropriate coping interventions, maintaining the safety of the patient, and initiating treatment are also significant actions.
