a. Evaluate the process of ethical decision making.
In NS519, I was responsible for implementing a new protocol in my unit of practice. I chose to implement a ventilator bundle, which consisted of cares that reduced ventilator-associated pneumonia rates among intensive care patients. In this specific assignment, we were responisble for assessing the ethical dilemnas and resolutions involved with implementation of the new change.
This assignment involved a critical appraisal of a research article. Throughout the assignment, I had to evaluate the process of choosing participants for the research study and whether any ethical issues existed regarding the subject population, the selection process, and their participation in the study. I learned from this assignment that ethical decision making must occur not only prior to the start of a research study but throughout the entire study to protect the rights of the subjects.
