Nurses should always advocate for their patient's health and well-being, including in the implementation of evidence-based research. This assignment reviews some of those ethical issues that could arise in which a nurse would need to advocate for the health of their patient and communities.
I have personally experienced and observed the effects of the nursing shortage in my career. After exploring the policy, I even more so see the importance of federal funding to establish programs and grants to financially help expand the nursing workforce. The expected growth in nursing shortage with the aging population will have a large impact. I am already witnessing the impact of the nursing shortage in my place of employment. Having the federal support to provide funding to individuals that encourages them to start in the nursing workforce is important to create a diverse workforce. A key role for the nurse to support her career is to be active in creating change. A key way to create change is to be involved in politics and to advocate for the needs in the nursing profession and the following assignment will examine this in policy development.
