Inclusivity in the Classroom

Purpose: Every individual is given an opportunity to achieve his/her potential and be included in the learning process
The following artifact will discuss illiteracy, which is a disability that is often not recognized. Illiteracy is “defined as someone who is unable to read or write at all or whose reading and writing skills are at the fourth-grade level or below” (Bastable, et. al, 2011, p. 231). Nurse educators have a key responsibility to identify those who are at risk in order to provide individualized education and ensure the patient/student is able to demonstrate an understanding. Students in a classroom setting will not be successful on tests and in their future career if they are not understanding the information and able to apply it in a real-world setting. Open relationships and trusting attitudes by the educators that support and advocate for the success of the student.
