b. Apply ethical principles in the role of educator/executive.
Debates can raise ethical issues because students are placed in uncomfortable situations having to defend an argument that is normally against their own beliefs and morals. Defending a controversial topic can cause emotional and moral stress. Some cultures believe that arguments and certain non-verbal gestures, such as hand gestures or maintaining eye contact throughout communication, are disrespectful. Debates are difficult learning strategies for those who have disabilities with oral communication and articulation or hearing impairments. Diversity often lends itself into situations in which students speak different languages or interpret meaning of words or ideas differently than other cultures. The following worksheet discusses implementing debates into the education curriculum.

The purpose of this assignment was to observe a classroom teaching session which included a pediatric lecture. Through this observational experience, I observed multiple learning styles of students as well as students from a diverse cultural background. This assingment also shows addressing barriers of the institution that can impact student learning as well as potential problems to student learning and retention, all which are ethical issues that affect scholarship.
